I dream of Cocoa Beach
Perhaps the most recognizable Brevard County beach is Cocoa Beach. When asked how he knew about it, one vacationer replied: “I watched ‘I Dream Of Jeannie’ 30 years ago.” Whether popularized by the television show, the space program, or Ron Jon’s Surf Shop, Cocoa Beach stands on its own merit.
It is located on a barrier island, sandwiched between the Banana River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. The strand is densely developed with hotels, condos, houses, and businesses. The beaches tend to be some of the most crowded, by both locals and tourists.
Amenity a plenty
“What really caught our attention to stop here for the day was the pier,” said Sarah Jenkins of Kalamazoo, Mich. “We really like the idea of being able to take our kids out on the pier, and being able to go watch people fish. And, it has the various shops and restaurants. That really appealed to us.”
Cocoa Beach has a number of county beachside parks with convenient parking, picnic pavilions, restrooms, showers, and playgrounds.
“My favorite beach is Cocoa Beach [Sidney Fischer Park] because of the facilities. There are playgrounds, barbecues, bathrooms, everything,” said Louiy Elfakir of Orlando. “And, you can walk right to the beach and back to your car if you need anything.”
Another very popular beach park is Lori Wilson. Complete with all the amenities and even a dog park. Direct access takes beachgoers straight to the sand, adjacent to a lifeguard house.
Visitors feel that this is a reasonable price for close parking, restrooms, and showers, at the least.
